IdleBuster Next Documentation
The most advanced activity simulator for Windows. Keep your system active, your status green, and your presence undetectable โ even while you’re away.
What is IdleBuster?
IdleBuster Next is a lightweight Windows desktop application that simulates realistic human presence on your computer.
It uses advanced algorithms to perform randomized mouse movements, keyboard presses, page scrolls, browser tab switching, and application rotation โ all designed to prevent idle detection by corporate monitoring tools such as Microsoft Teams, Slack, Hubstaff, Time Doctor, ActivTrak, and others.
The application runs silently in your Windows System Tray (the small icon area in the bottom-right corner of your taskbar). It is fully configurable, comes with intelligent presets, and supports a hands-free “Auto Detect” mode that activates only when you’re actually away.
Installation
Get IdleBuster Next up and running on your Windows machine in under a minute.
System Requirements
Operating System
Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit). IdleBuster uses native Windows APIs for input simulation and runs as a standard desktop application.
Storage & Memory
Less than 150 MB disk space required. Runs with minimal RAM usage (~50 MB idle, ~80 MB active) so it won’t slow your machine.
Internet (One-time)
An internet connection is required for initial license activation only. After that, IdleBuster works fully offline using cached license data.
Installation Steps
Download the Installer
Download the latest release from orientminds.com. You’ll receive a .zip archive containing the application files.
Extract the Archive
Right-click the downloaded .zip file and choose “Extract All”. Extract to any location โ your Desktop, Downloads folder, or a custom directory like C:\IdleBuster.
Launch IdleBuster
Open the extracted folder and double-click IdleBuster Next.exe. The application will launch and present the activation screen.
License Activation
Activate your license key to unlock IdleBuster. Community Edition users receive a 7-day free PRO trial.
How to Activate
Select Your Product
On the activation screen, choose your product from the dropdown: either Community Edition (free with trial) or IdleBuster Ultimate (full PRO access).
Enter License Key
Paste or type the license key you received via email after purchasing. The format is XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. Ensure no extra spaces are included.
Click Activate
IdleBuster will verify your license with the server. Once confirmed, the app initializes and moves to the system tray. If you’re on Community Edition, your 7-day PRO trial begins immediately.
Offline Mode
After your first successful activation, IdleBuster caches your license data locally. If you lose internet connectivity on subsequent launches, the app will continue to work in offline mode using the cached license. A fresh online verification occurs whenever a connection is available.
Changing Your License
To activate a different license key (for example, upgrading from Community to Ultimate), open the Settings window from the tray icon, go to the Subscription tab, and click “Activate New License”. This opens a modal where you can enter a new product and license key.
Quick Start Guide
Get from zero to fully protected in under 60 seconds.
Find the Tray Icon
After activation, IdleBuster lives in your Windows System Tray (bottom-right corner near the clock). Look for a small gray icon โ that means IdleBuster is waiting and ready.
Activate with a Hotkey
Press Alt + A on your keyboard. This instantly activates all modules (mouse, keyboard, scroll, screen rotation). The tray icon turns green to confirm it’s working.
Stop When You Return
Press Alt + X to immediately stop all simulation. The icon returns to gray. You can also double-click the tray icon to stop. If Smart Resume is on, it stops automatically when you move the mouse.
Understanding the Tray Icon
The tray icon changes color in real-time to reflect the current simulation state.
Tray Right-Click Menu
Right-click the tray icon to access the full context menu with quick-action shortcuts, the Auto-Detect toggle, and Settings access.
- Activate Mouse / Keyboard / Scroll / ALL โ Trigger individual modules or all at once
- Auto-detect โ Toggle the Auto-Detect mode on or off (checkbox)
- Settings โ Opens the full Settings dashboard
- Exit current activity โ Stops all active simulation
- Quit โ Closes IdleBuster completely
Feature Modules
Each module simulates a different type of human activity. Enable or disable them individually for a custom experience.
Mouse Activity Free
Simulates realistic cursor movement across your screen. The mouse jumps to random positions at randomized intervals, alternating between quick “reading” movements and slower sweeping motions.
- Vertical Travel โ How far the cursor jumps up/down (10โ300 px)
- Horizontal Travel โ How far the cursor jumps left/right (10โ1500 px)
- Fast Delay โ Pause before quick movements (50โ1000 ms)
- Slow Delay โ Pause before sweeping movements (1000โ5000 ms)
Keyboard Activity Free
Periodically presses the Left Shift key at random intervals. This keeps your status active in chat apps and prevents screen locks โ without ever typing visible characters into documents.
- Fast Delay โ Time between active keystrokes (100โ1500 ms)
- Slow Delay โ Longer pauses between typing bursts (2000โ8000 ms)
Scroll Activity PRO
Simulates reading behavior by scrolling the page vertically and horizontally at random intervals. Creates the impression you’re actively reading long documents, emails, or web pages.
- Vertical Scroll โ Up/down scroll distance (50โ800 px)
- Horizontal Scroll โ Left/right scroll distance (50โ500 px)
- 65% chance of vertical scroll, 35% horizontal per cycle
Screen Rotation PRO
Forces periodic app and browser tab switching on a strict schedule. This makes your screen physically change โ critical for monitoring tools that track screen content or take screenshots.
- Interval โ Rotation frequency from 1โ30 minutes
- App Switch โ Simulates Alt+Tab to rotate through open apps (depth 2โ7)
- Browser Tabs โ Simulates Ctrl+Number to cycle Chrome tabs (limit 2โ9)
Presets & Activity Levels
Instead of manually tuning every slider, use presets to instantly configure IdleBuster for your setup.
Screen Presets
Screen Presets control how far the mouse and scroll travel. Match this to your physical monitor arrangement for the most natural-looking movement.
Single Screen Preset
Best for standard single-monitor setups. Movement stays within typical application window boundaries.
Dual Screen Preset
Extended horizontal range so the cursor can travel between two monitors naturally.
Ultra-Wide Preset
Maximum horizontal travel for ultra-wide or triple-monitor setups.
Activity Levels
Activity Levels control how fast and often simulated actions occur. They adjust the delay timings for mouse, keyboard, and scroll โ independent of travel distance.
๐ข Ultra Low
Extremely sparse activity. Long pauses between all actions. Good for situations where you just need the bare minimum to prevent idle timeout.
๐ถ Low
Gentle, occasional movements. Mimics someone who is casually reading with infrequent interaction.
โ๏ธ Moderate
Standard browsing pace. Balanced timing between quick actions and reading pauses. Recommended for most users.
๐ High
Fast-paced activity. Frequent mouse jumps, quick keystrokes, rapid scrolling. Simulates someone actively working.
โก Ultra High
Intense, near-constant activity. Very short delays between all actions. Use for monitoring tools that require constant input signals.
Auto Detect & Smart Resume
The crown jewel of IdleBuster โ fully hands-free operation that activates when you leave and stops when you return.
๐ค Auto Detect PRO
When Auto Detect is enabled, IdleBuster continuously monitors your system’s idle time using Windows power APIs. After you stop using your computer for the configured threshold (e.g., 90 seconds), IdleBuster automatically activates all enabled modules.
You don’t need to press any hotkeys โ just walk away and IdleBuster takes over.
Auto Detect flow: IdleBuster waits while you work, detects idle after your threshold, then activates automatically.
Configuration
- Auto Kick-in (sec) โ The idle threshold before IdleBuster activates. Minimum 10 seconds, maximum 300 seconds. Default is 20 seconds.
- Enable Auto Detect from the Configuration tab in Settings, or toggle it directly from the tray right-click menu.
- Auto Detect can be enabled at startup โ it persists between restarts if left enabled.
๐ฏ Smart Resume PRO
Smart Resume works hand-in-hand with Auto Detect. While IdleBuster is actively simulating mouse movement, it continuously tracks the cursor position. If it detects that the real mouse moved more than 15 pixels away from where IdleBuster last placed it, it knows you physically grabbed the mouse.
When this happens, IdleBuster instantly stops all simulation and hands control back to you โ no hotkey required. It then goes back to idle-watching mode, ready to reactivate the next time you leave.
How it works technically
- Before each simulated mouse jump, IdleBuster records the expected cursor position.
- On the next tick, it reads the actual cursor position.
- If the distance between expected and actual is >15 pixels, a human must have moved it.
- All simulation immediately stops and the cycle resets.
Global Hotkeys
Control IdleBuster from anywhere on your system without opening any window. These shortcuts work globally even when the Settings window is closed.
| Shortcut | Action | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Alt + A | Activate All | Instantly activates all enabled modules โ mouse, keyboard, scroll, and screen rotation. The tray icon turns green immediately. |
| Alt + X | Stop All / Panic | Immediately halts every running simulation. Use this as your “panic button” when someone approaches your desk. Completely silent, no visual cue. |
| Alt + M | Mouse Only | Activates only the Mouse Activity module. Useful for minimal simulation. |
| Alt + K | Keyboard Only | Activates only the Keyboard Activity module. Good for apps that only check keystroke activity. |
| Alt + S | Scroll Only | Activates only the Scroll Activity module. PRO |
| Alt + Q | Quit Application | Completely exits IdleBuster Next and removes it from the system tray. You’ll need to re-launch the .exe to start it again. |
System Settings
OS-level preferences that control how IdleBuster integrates with your Windows system.
Start with Windows
When enabled, IdleBuster automatically launches in the background every time your computer starts up. It runs silently in the system tray โ no window opens, no splash screen appears. Combined with Auto Detect, this gives you a completely hands-free experience.
Settings Dashboard
The Settings dashboard is accessible by right-clicking the tray icon and selecting Settings. It contains three tabs:
- Configuration โ All module toggles, sliders, presets, and activity levels.
- Subscription โ License details, trial status, expiration dates, and activation controls.
- Guide โ Quick reference for hotkeys and usage tutorials.
Click “Save Configuration” to persist changes. Click “Reset Defaults” to restore all settings to their factory values. The Settings window can be closed without affecting running simulations.

Troubleshooting
Common issues and their solutions. If your problem isn’t listed here, contact [email protected].
Issue: “It’s running but my Teams/Slack status still goes Away”
Some monitoring tools are more aggressive than others. Try these fixes in order:
- Ensure both Mouse Activity and Keyboard Activity are enabled โ some apps check only one input type.
- Increase the Activity Level to High or Ultra High to produce more frequent inputs.
- Enable Screen Rotation (PRO) so the screen visually changes. Apps that take periodic screenshots will see different content.
- If using Auto Detect, decrease the kick-in time to 10โ15 seconds so simulation starts sooner after you leave.
Issue: “PRO modules are locked after upgrading”
- Open Settings โ Subscription tab and verify your status shows “Valid”.
- If it doesn’t, click “Activate New License” and re-enter your Ultimate license key.
- Completely quit the app via Alt + Q and restart it.
- If the issue persists, your previous Community license may still be cached. Delete the file at %APPDATA%\idlebuster-passport\ and re-activate.
Issue: “License activation fails with a network error”
- Check your internet connection. IdleBuster needs to reach orientminds.com for activation.
- Corporate firewalls or VPNs might block the connection. Try disconnecting from VPN temporarily.
- The activation server retries up to 3 times before giving an error. If it still fails, try again in a few minutes.
- Once activated successfully once, IdleBuster works offline using cached data.
Issue: “Mouse movement looks unnatural / too fast”
- Switch to a lower Activity Level (Low or Ultra Low).
- Reduce the Vertical and Horizontal Travel sliders in the Mouse module.
- Use the Single Screen preset if you only have one monitor โ wider presets make the cursor jump farther.
Issue: “Hotkeys don’t work”
- Check if another app has claimed the same Alt+ shortcut. Discord, OBS, and some gaming software commonly override Alt+A.
- Ensure IdleBuster is running (check for the icon in the tray). Hotkeys only work when the app is active.
- Try running IdleBuster as Administrator if hotkeys aren’t registering.
Issue: “Start with Windows doesn’t work”
- Some corporate Group Policies block apps from registering as login items. Check with your IT administrator.
- Alternatively, manually create a shortcut to IdleBuster Next.exe in your Startup folder: press Win + R, type shell:startup, and place the shortcut there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
No. IdleBuster only presses the Left Shift key, which is a modifier key that doesn’t produce any visible character. It will never type letters, numbers, or symbols into any application. Your open documents, emails, and chat windows are completely safe.
IdleBuster uses the same Windows APIs that legitimate accessibility software uses to simulate input. It does not install drivers, modify system files, or inject into other processes. However, some advanced endpoint detection tools may flag any input automation software. Use the “Start with Windows” feature and rename the executable if needed.
Yes โ as long as IdleBuster is running on the machine where you need to simulate input. If you’re using Remote Desktop (RDP) into a work machine, install IdleBuster on the work machine. If you use Citrix or VMware Horizon, install it inside the virtual session. IdleBuster works at the operating system level, so it doesn’t matter how you’re connected.
When your PRO trial expires, all PRO modules (Scroll Activity, Screen Rotation, Auto Detect, Smart Resume, and advanced presets) are automatically locked. Mouse and Keyboard activity continue working as part of the free Community Edition. To regain PRO access, upgrade to IdleBuster Ultimate.
Each license key has a limited number of activations (varies by plan). You can check your remaining activations in the Subscription tab. If you need to move IdleBuster to a new machine, deactivate the old installation first or contact support for assistance.
IdleBuster can help prevent the screen from locking by keeping the system active. However, if the screen is already locked (e.g., via Win + L), simulated input cannot unlock it โ that requires your real password. The best approach is to enable IdleBuster before stepping away.
IdleBuster is 100% clean. It does not collect personal data, does not phone home (except for license verification), and does not install background services. The false positives from antivirus software occur because the app uses input simulation APIs โ the same ones used by legit accessibility tools, AutoHotkey, and remote control software.
IdleBuster is a portable application โ no traditional installer to uninstall. Simply:
1. Quit the app via Alt + Q.
2. Disable “Start with Windows” if it was enabled.
3. Delete the IdleBuster Next folder.
4. Optionally, delete config data at %APPDATA%\idlebuster-settings\, %APPDATA%\idlebuster-passport\, and %APPDATA%\idlebuster-trial\.
